The collection represents the full scope of the architectural work and practice of John van der Meulen. His architectural projects can be traced from concept to completion through slides, photographs, plans and drawings; biographies and resumes document his professional career; and financial ledgers and project records record the financial progression of his practice. The architectural projects included in the collecction consist mainly of private residential structures, with a few commercial and religious buildings.
